PIA flies Islamabad–Chitral (weather-dependent, often cancelled). Road via Dir takes 10–12h — scenic but rough.
Best Season
May–Oct ideal. The Kalash festivals (May, Aug, Dec) are unmissable cultural events. Winter roads close.
Kalash Culture
The Kalash are a non-Muslim indigenous minority. Dress modestly, ask before photographing, and respect their sacred sites.
Getting Around
Jeep hire essential — PKR 5,000–10,000/day. No Careem. Local wagons connect Chitral to Ayun and Bumburet.

Jazz and Telenor work in Chitral town. Signal drops to zero in Kalash valleys and upper Chitral.
Altitude & Health
Chitral town is at 1500m — comfortable. Shandur and upper valleys reach 3700m+ — acclimatise carefully.
