K2 Base Camp Trek: Complete Guide for Trekkers (Permit, Cost, Route)

K2 Base Camp (5,150m) is one of the world's most coveted trekking destinations. Unlike the Baltoro Glacier approach to other 8,000m peaks, the K2 BC route rewards with raw, untouched wilderness and dramatically fewer crowds than Nepal's equivalent treks.

Trek Overview

The classic route starts from Askole (the last road-accessible village) and follows the Braldu River and Baltoro Glacier to Concordia — the junction of three mighty glaciers — before ascending to K2 Base Camp. Technical glacier walking experience is strongly recommended.

Permit Requirements

Budget PKR 180,000–280,000 per person for a self-arranged trek (not including international flights). Main costs: trekking permit (PKR 15,000), NOC (PKR 5,000), guide (PKR 8,000–12,000/day), porters (PKR 3,500–4,500/day each), accommodation in Skardu and Askole (PKR 800–2,000/night), food on route, and Skardu–Islamabad transport.
